ChoralSounds Northwest Auditions
Welcoming singers of all ages from high school to retirement, ChoralSounds is truly a community chorus, and provides a welcome musical home for folks from all walks of life. Under the gifted direction of Ryan Ellis, ChoralSounds continues to focus its efforts on polished musical performance, and singers are energized and excited about this progress.
Singers who decide to join ChoralSounds will be asked to sing a short excerpt from any song of their choice – with or without accompaniment – in a private session with the conductor. Previous choral singing experience and the ability to sight-read are desired, but not required, for membership.
Members of ChoralSounds also have the opportunity to audition for two smaller ensembles, VocalSounds and Smamblettes (woman’s group). Upon acceptance from the conductor, additional rehearsals and dues are required for these small groups.
Rehearsals for the 2016-2017 season are held at Glendale Lutheran Church (13455 2nd Avenue SW, Burien, WA 98146), from 7:00 until 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday evenings (rehearsals are held in the new sanctuary, at the north end of the Glendale Lutheran complex. Enter through the door at the far left.) In addition, there is usually one all-day rehearsal on a weekend during the preparation cycle for each concert, and singers are typically required to be at the theater every evening the week before each show opens for technical and dress rehearsals.
Additional Member Requirements
ChoralSounds members pay dues of $90 for each concert period. Membership in the smaller audition-only ensembles requires additional dues: VocalSounds costs $100 for a full year, and Smamblettes costs $50 for a full year. Dues scholarships are available for singers based upon need. Dues cover the cost of music, as well as a portion of general operating expenses. There is required uniform concert attire, which is the singer’s responsibility to obtain.
